When you hire a voice actor, you’re trusting them with more than a script. You’re trusting them to understand your story, make strong choices behind the mic, take direction, and deliver something that works for your project. My approach to VO comes from a somewhat unusual combination of acting, filmmaking, sound design, and post-production, which means I understand both sides of the microphone: what it takes to give a great performance and what happens to that performance once it leaves my booth.

My love of storytelling started early. At 4 years old, I was diagnosed with leukemia, which meant I needed to find ways to have fun that didn’t involve spending too much time outside getting dirty and risking getting sick. That led to making skits with my parents’ Canon DSLR, doing voices around the house and on the occasional very loud car ride (sorry, Mom and Dad), and eventually discovering theatre. Years onstage taught me breath control, character work, how to read an audience, and, most importantly, how to make strong choices and commit to them. That love of performance eventually collided with another passion when I pursued a degree in Media Arts and fell in love with post-production and sound design.

After college, those two worlds finally came together at the post-production studio Camp Lucky. Alongside assisting with editing, sound design, and the day-to-day demands of tight production turnarounds, I was given the opportunity to record temporary voiceover for client edits. I treated every scratch read like an audition, and eventually, one of them became one. That opportunity launched my professional VO career with my first client, Carl’s Jr. Today, everything that came before still follows me into the booth. Whether I’m recording a commercial, animation, eLearning course, or narration project, I bring an understanding of performance, production, and the people relying on that recording after I hit send.

So, how did I end up here? Well, to tell that story, I first have to touch on a not-so-savory, but oh-so-important, part of my youth.

At 4 years old, I was diagnosed with leukemia. You may wonder, “How does leukemia tie into VO?” Great question!

Getting sick meant I needed an extracurricular that didn’t involve spending too much time outside in the dirt. So instead, I found myself playing with my parents’ Canon DSLR camera, making skits, doing voices, and finding joy in telling stories, all from the comfort of my room and the occasional very loud (sorry, Mom and Dad) car ride.

That joy became something even bigger once I set foot onstage.

I grew up with theatre in my blood. My first-ever role? (Oh my, you are inquisitive!) A sheep hand puppet that gave me the immense responsibility of uttering three “Baaaaaas” in succession. In truth, I don’t know how I wasn’t nominated for a Tony that year.

From there, I auditioned for just about every school production I could. Those years taught me skills I still rely on every day: breath control, accent work, character study, reading an audience, you name it! More importantly, the stage taught me how to make strong, relatable choices and commit to them.

By the end of high school, another love had entered the picture: film.

I pursued a degree in Media Arts, where I developed a particular passion for post-production and sound design. Acting never went away, though. I was always quick to volunteer when a project needed talent and gained a reputation as someone who would show up, do the job well, and keep the mood high when things got tough. (Texas weather and outdoor short films are not good friends.)

Slowly, acting and sound became the two forces guiding my path. You can probably see where this is headed.

After college, I joined the post-production studio Camp Lucky, and trust me, I felt lucky to be there. I managed hard drive stock, assisted with editing and sound design, and helped keep projects organized through the kind of tight turnarounds that are simply part of life in production.

Then one day, having heard about my acting background, the higher-ups gave me another responsibility: recording a temporary voiceover for client edits.

I treated every scratch read like an audition.

Eventually, one of them became one.

That opportunity launched my professional VO career with my first client, Carl’s Jr. From there, the rest is history. I’ve now been working full-time in voiceover for two years.

And in a strange way, everything that came before still follows me into the booth.

The kid making voices into a camera taught me to love storytelling. Theatre taught me how to perform. Media Arts taught me what happens on the other side of the microphone. And working in post-production taught me just how valuable it is to have someone who can deliver great work without slowing everything else down.

So whether I’m behind the mic for a commercial, animation, eLearning course, or narration project, I’m bringing more than a good read. I’m bringing an understanding of performance, production, and the people relying on that recording after I hit send.
